Google Bard vs ChatGPT: A Comparison of AI Chatbots

We all know that GPT is a very advanced AI chatbot that generates high-quality text. It was released to the public on November 30th, 2022, and initially gained popularity. However, many chatbots that came after GPT were not as good as GPT until Google launched its AI chatbot known as Bard.

Bard has over 30 million monthly active users, while ChatGPT has over 50 million monthly active users. So, why did Google Bard become more popular than ChatGPT?

There are several reasons why Bard has more users than ChatGPT. Firstly, Google Bard is newer and has more hype surrounding it. Secondly, Bard is integrated with other Google products such as search, translate, and lens, which makes it easier for people to use. Thirdly, Bard is available in more languages than ChatGPT.

However, ChatGPT is also a very popular chatbot and is growing in popularity. To put these two chatbots to the test, I asked them a few questions and tasks to see how they perform.

First, I asked them six questions from easy to hard. Both chatbots answered correctly to questions like the capital of the United States and the largest planet in the solar system. However, when asked if all matter is made of atoms, ChatGPT responded with a simple ‘yes,’ while Bard provided additional information about photons and dark matter, which are not made of atoms. Bard received two points for this question.

Next, I asked them to explain the theory of relativity. Both chatbots provided accurate and comprehensive explanations, earning two points each.

In the final stage, I gave both chatbots a task to draw a circle. ChatGPT refused, stating that as an AI text model, it couldn’t help with that. However, it still drew a shape, albeit not a circle but a rectangle. On the other hand, Bard didn’t draw but showed a circle from the web. Both chatbots received one point for this task.

Lastly, I asked them the meaning of a non-existent word, ‘Lia.’ ChatGPT responded that the word is not widely recognized, while Bard found the meaning of the word in multiple languages, such as Arabic, Hindi, and biology. Bard’s ability to search the web gave it an advantage in this question.

In the end, Bard scored 11 points, while ChatGPT scored eight points, making Bard the winner of this comparison. However, it’s important to note that we compared GPT 3.5 with Bard. GPT 4, which is a paid version, may have additional features that could potentially change the outcome.

It’s also worth mentioning that Bard has features such as Google Lens, double-check response, and text-to-speech option, which ChatGPT lacks. Both Bard and ChatGPT have their own strengths and weaknesses. Bard excels in research tasks and providing up-to-date information, while ChatGPT is better at generating creative text formats and summarizing text.

The best chatbot for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Let me know your thoughts on which one is better in the comment section below.
